The Current Status of DVD players
When DVD players were first introduced to the United States back in March 1997, various crowds rushed to adapt it. The movie industry started making both classic and future titles in DVD format and consumers started appreciating the added benefits and decided to get DVD players of their own to take advantage of these features. This resulted to older VHS and VCD formats to be abandoned and nowadays, blank DVD's are very cheap and software to make DVD content is just as affordable with some of them even free. Now another format seeks to revolutionize multimedia and has been generating buzz since the popularity of HDTV's. While HD DVD didn't make it very far, Blu-ray gained superiority with its high 25 GB capacity and support for high-definition video. This has led to a number of players that can play Blu-ray formats and this has led consumers to give this technology for a spin. But history didn't repeat itself in this case and DVD players can still be found around electronics stores. Here are some of the reasons why DVD players still exist today and why they can still be useful. Affordability Blu-ray players are still quite expensive to the average consumer and most people know how delicate these systems are so people do not decide to buy these expensive players in fear of them possibly breaking. In addition, blank Blu-ray discs are also expensive and buying DVDs in bulk is much cheaper. Compatibility If you have an old LCD TV display that doesn't support high-definition modes, you won't be getting the most out of Blu-ray content. Although the prices of mid-range HDTVs are showing some signs of decreasing, many people aren't ready to give up their old TV's simply because they still function. This goes the same way with computers as well since only the newest computers come with Blu-ray drives. Since Blu-ray drives support reading and writing DVD's, there should be no compatibility concerns if for example you need to make a movie for someone who owns a DVD player. Preference While Blu-ray has been receiving a lot of praise on how improved the visuals are, others don't see it as something necessary and are contented with the quality of DVD already. This is why DVD titles are still being produced and some next-generation consoles still using DVDs as their main format. No need to invest large on a Blu-ray player if all you need to play are DVD movies. DVD players are here to stay and should last for a long while since their quality still impresses a good majority and the cost of these DVD players hardly cause a dent on budget no matter how many features they have. Since DVD players won't be going out anytime soon, it should be relatively safe to buy a DVD player if you don't have one. Just get the latest model and good brand so don't have to worry about it breaking. There are plenty of discount DVD players around that have more than enough features to be happy.
